While most sodas cease to exist like Q snapped his fingers (Mon Capitaine). Mr. Q. Cumber, the cucumber soda from Q Mixers, is still very much alive.
When it first appeared in my life in 2014 (I was a lot less verbose back then) at World Market, it felt like a novelty, a fizzy vegetable drink masquerading as soda. Back then, cucumber in a carbonated beverage seemed like a dare. Now it feels almost restrained compared to the chaos of pickle (which are cucumbers too, I guess) sodas, hot (as in spicy, no one recently has tried to sell a warmed one) colas and whatever flavor scientists are currently unleashing (as if Jurassic Park taught them nothing).

They say when you reach max level, you stop leveling, and Mr. Q (we are old friends now, I don’t have to say the full name) has taken this to heart. They have not changed a single thing in the intervening twelve years. Same bottle, same ingredients, same recipe, hell, even their website looks the same. For them to keep chugging along (yeah, a drink pun, sue me) without a single change like the horseshoe crab of the beverage world, means they must have created something timeless.
The only thing that does seem to have changed is that it’s available in a few more places. While I still see it at World Market, I’ve also personally spotted it at Walmart and the Fresh Market. According to the website you can also get it through Amazon and at Total Wine & More. I’ll admit I still pick up a bottle from time to time; it’s quite refreshing on a hot summer day. It also serves well for cleansing your palate when eating rich or spicy foods.
You don’t have to give it a shot, but it’d be a lot cooler if you did.
And now, preserved exactly as it appeared:
Original Review (Unchanged)
Mr. Q. CumberFri, Aug. 8, 2014
The Q in the name must stand for "quite a tasty beverage." What? It's a play on cucumber? Well, that certainly puts me in a pickle. I had all sorts of Q jokes queued up. Either way, it's a delightful refreshing drink. It manages to walk the line between being too sweet or too dry, and actually tastes just like a fresh cucumber, but fizzy. Best served cool, cool as a cucumber.

Found at World Market.
